MOUNTAIN TRAP
SPRUNG BY CHINESE ON THE NORTHERN FRONT. HALF OF JAPANESE FORCE WIPED OUT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) CHUNGKING, April 30. More /than half of the Japanese troops who were surrounded on the western slopes of the Taihan mountain range, on the northern front in China, have been annihilated, states today’s Chinese communique. Fighting continues south of Linhsien. The military spokesman said that the Chinese control a V-shaped ridge in the heart of the Taihan range in spite of Japanese pressure from three sides. I Japanese flyers, stepping up their spring] air offensive, today made a third against Lunkling, on the Burma Road. Twenty-seven planes dropped bombs, and. fierce air encounters were fought. Another report says that 10 enemy planes were shot down during this attack.
