DIRECT ASSISTANCE
GIVEN BY BOMBER COMMAND TO RUSSIA MINE-LAYING IN BALTIC. CARRIED OUT ON GREAT SCALE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 1.30 p.m.) RUGBY, April 29. In an operation, which rendered direct assistance to our Russian allies, the Bomber Command last night laid more mines in enemy waters than in any previous single operation since the war began. In two nights our aircraft laid more mines thah normally are laid in a whole month, according to the Air Ministry News Service. Some of our aircraft flew 1,500 miles in last night’s operation.
