ATTACK ON WILHELMSHAVEN.

LONDON, April 29

Bombers from Britain were out over the Baltic last night, on the biggest mine-laying operations of the war. Other bombers attacked the German naval base of Wilhelmshaven. Twenty-three aircraft are missing.

British aircraft on patrol round the coast of Britain destroyed three German planes today. Mustangs shot down a bomber in the North Sea and Typhoons accounted for two Axis fighters over the Channel.

ON RECORD SCALE MINE LAYING BY R.A.F. BEARING ON U-BOAT WAR & EASTERN FRONT. (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, April 29. The R.A.F. is carrying out minelaying operations on a record scale, reports the Press Association’s aviation correspondent. These operations are of immense importance in relation to the U-boat war and also to the Russian front. The Baltic is the great training ground for submarines and their crews. It is known that our mining has hampered this work. The Baltic is 'also a scene of great activity in preparation for the next phase of the war on the Eastern front. MARTIAL LAW PROCLAIMED IN ESSEN. UNREST AFTER LAST R.A.F. RAID. (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, April 29. A message from Zurich reports that martial law has been proclaimed in Essen as a result of unrest after the last R.A.F. raid.
