GERMAN R-BOATS

ATTACKED BV BRITISH PLANES AT LEAST ONE VESSEL SUNK. OTHERS SEVERELY DAMAGED. LONDON, April 29. Last night British Albacore aircraft attacked a convoy of German R-boats oft the French coast and sank at least one. R-boats are a small type of E-boat. There were about 12 in the convoy.

The planes made two attacks, cutting off their engines and gliding in silently to drop their bombs before the German crews knew what was happening. When the second attack was made, four hours after the first, the enemy boats were, according to one Albacore pilot, “milling around in a complete shambles, following one another like sheep. In the centre of the circle was an R-boat blazing furiously amidships. We cannot definitely claim more than one sunk, but the damage to the rest must have been severe.”
