CARD PARTY AND DANCE AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) i The Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held a very enjoyable card party and dance at which the Patriotic Committee took the opportunity to honour two soldiers, Privates F. Wright and K. Brislain. The euchre prizes were won as follow: —Ladies: Mesdames Harvey and Kitchen tied for first place, Mrs Harvey winning the draw. Men: Messrs G. Curtis and H. Stimpson tied, Mr Stimpson winning the draw. The consolation prizes went to Mrs Olsen and Mr Hansen. After a home-made supper had been handed around, Mr Raleigh asked the two soldier guests to accept gifts of a cheque each from those present. Both soldiers suitably returned thanks. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs G. Houlbrooke, Miss Edmonds and Mr Harman. A competition for 10s worth of groceries was won by Mr C. West. An Enjoyable Gathering. On Easter Monday the young people of the district held a most enjoyable card party and dance. The card tournament resulted as follows: —Ladies: Mrs Hart. Men: Mr Curtis. For the dancing, Mr B. Wright was M.C., and the music was supplied by Mrs Houlbrooke, Misses B. Edmonds, L. Hart and B. Houlbrooke. Novelty dances were won as follows: —Lucky Spot, Miss N.N Curtis and partner; Monte Carlo waltz, Mrs Wallis and Miss H. Duncan; second lucky spot, Miss K. Wallis and Mr R. Seymour. A trophy donated by Private K. Brislain was competed for and won by Mrs B. Wright. Home-made supper was handed round.

Mr K. Raleigh, on behalf of the organisers, handed to the secretary of the local Red Cross Society the proceeds over and above expenses which amounted to £3 ss. Personal Items, Mr and Mrs N. Richardson spent Easter with Mrs Robbie, Haunui. . Miss Coulton, Pahiatua, has been the guest of Mrs Hart. Miss M. Cheer has been staying with Mrs R. Houlbrooke. Miss K. Wallis spent Easter at her home. Mr Ross Seymour (Hutt), spent the holidays with his parents at Rakaunui. Mrs Curtis has returned home after having visited her sister in Auckland. Mr and Mrs Crosland, Mrs Hansen Senr., of Eketahuna, and Miss Douglas, Napier, spent Easter with Mr and Mrs Hansen, Haunui.
