BOMB HITS
ON AXIS SHIPS OFF COAST OF BRITTANY BRITISH FIGHTERS ALSO IN ACTION. VESSELS RAKED FROM LOW LEVEL. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) RUGBY, April 28. Whirlwinds, escorted by Spitfires, one of which is missing, continued their offensive against enemy shipping today, says the Air Ministry. They attacked a convoy of eight ships off the coast of Brittany. Minesweepers at the real’ of ■the convoy received four hits from two Whirlwind bombers, and another minesweeper and a trawler also received bomb hits. Despite intense light and heavy flak, the escorting fighters swept down to a low level and raked the enemy ships with machine-gun fire.
