“NO INJUSTICE DONE”
MR LANGSTONE’S CHARGES SUPPORT FOR PRIME MINISTER. NO EVIDENCE OF DOUBLE CROSSING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Charges of unjust treatment and of being “double-crossed” by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, made by the former Minister.of Lands, Mr Langstone, and which led to his resignation from the office of New Zealand High Commissioner at Ottawa, were not sustained by delegates to the annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party last night A resolution endorsing the action of the Prime Minister and Cabinet on the questions which led up to Mr Langstone's resignation was adopted by an overwhelming majority, there being three dissentients out of an attendance of more than 400 delegates. Reasons for his resignation were given by Mr Langstone in public statements both prior to his departure from Ottawa and on his return to New Zealand, and were followed by a statement by the Prime Minister. Reference to the matter was made in the report of the national executive to the conference yesterday. The delegates heard further statements frojn Mr Langstone and the Prime Minister on the issue at the afternoon and evening sessions, and the position of the Waimarino Labour Representative Council was explained by its chairman. A statement was also made by the national secretary, Mr M. Moohan, relating to his discussions with the Waimarino L.R.C.
The text of the resolution was: “That conference, after hearing Mr Langstone’s charges against the Prime Minister, is of the opinion that no injustice was done by the Prime Minister to Mr Langstone, that there is no evidence of the Prime Minister having doublecrossed Mr Langstone, and, further, that the action of the Prime Minister and Cabinet in the negotiations with Mr Langstone be endorsed?
