CAUSING ANXIETY

AIR WAR ON GERMANY. ADMISSION BY GOEBBELS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 23. The German Propaganda Minister, Dr. Goebbels, in an article in “Das Reich,” said: “The people in the bombed areas, because of their heavier duties, can claim greater rights. Without such greater rights it would be impossible for them to bear the air war much longer. The general standard of living has had to be reduced to enable greater help for the bombed areas. “The air war is growing more serious, and is giving rise to anxiety. Anger against the British raids is increasing. We will give our answer to them one day.”

The “Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” declared that the effects of the R.A.F. raids are even worse than those of the last war’s hunger blockade. There are more privations and sacrifice at home than there were toward the end of last War.

The “Frankfurter Zeitung” admitted that a great part of the residential section of Dusseldorf is only ruins, and added: “The people live from night to right without plans for the future. In this Rhenish town, the same as in many other German towns, shops are closed, houses have been destroyed, and only a minimum is left of the good things of the earth.”
