HOMING PIGEONS
MASTERTON CLUB. RACES FROM DANNEVIRKE AND HASTINGS. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club held two races on Saturday, one from Dannevirke, an airline distance of 55 miles, and a .“single toss” race from Hastings, an airline distance of 110 miles. The weather conditions for flying were good, and a strong northeasterly wind made the flying times fast. The “single toss” birds from Hastings were liberated by Mr W. B. Wallace. The following were the results of the < races:— From Dannevirke: Grant and Forrester’s “Black King” (time, 1 hr. 8 min. 3 sec.) 1, Stewart and Son’s “Grizzle Stride” (1 hr. 9 min. 55 sec.), 2; L. Wickens’s “Doubtful Star” (1 hr. 9 min. 59 sec.), 3; A. Pinkney’s “Red Sun” (1 hr. 11 min. 23 secs.), 4; J. Tilyard’s “Moonlight” (1 hr. 11 min. 30 secs.), 5; N. Gardner’s “Importation” (1 hr. 11 min. 40 secs.), 6. From Hastings: A. Pinkney’s “Scotch Lad” (time, 2 hr. 44 min. 36 sec.), ; 1; Stewart and Son’s “Ambitious” (3 hr. 16 min. 15 sec.), 2; L. Wickens’s “Doubtful Lad” (3 hr. 16 min. 45 sec.), 3; J .Tilyard’s “Stardust” (3 hr. 19 min. 30 sec.), 4; N. Gardner’s Nightly (3 hr. 32 min. 39 sec.), 5. With four races to go the following are the positions in connection with the points prizes:—A. Pinkney, 73 points, 1; Stewart and Sons, 71 points, 2; Grant and Forrester, 51 points, 3; L. < Wickens, 44 points, 4; N. Gardner, 34 ~ points, 5. The next race will be from Waipiikurau.
