GREYTOWN

BOY SCOUTS TENDERFOOT EXAMINATIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was another good attendance at the weekly parade of the Scouts. The following passed their tenderfoot examination, and were invested:—Masters Anderson, Buckman, Lyster, Farmer, Morrison, R. Lyster, Palmer, Nicholas and Barker. There will be a special parade on Anzac Day. S.M. COURT DRUNKEN MOTORIST FINED. The monthly sitting of the Greytown Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday, Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., presiding. Robert Bela Zimala was fined £l, costs 10s, for having made a misleading statement regarding an application for the issue of a permit to change his address, he being a registered alien. Heinz Kurt Fleischmann was charged with having failed to comply with the terms of a permit authorising him to be absent from his registered place of abode. Constable Gregor gave evidence that Fleischmann had a permit to travel, and had failed to report his return. He was fined £lO, costs 10s. John Robert Te Whaiti was charged with having been in charge of a motor car while in a state of intoxication. Mr J. F. Thompson appeared for Te Whaiti and entered a plea of not guilty.

Dr. Palmer in evidence stated that he was called to the scene of an accident, and considered the defendant was not in a fit state to be in charge of a car. In answer to Mr Thompson, witness stated that Te Whaiti was shaken by the accident, and also at seeing his son injured, but that did not alter the fact that he was not fit to be in charge of a motor car.

Constable Gregor stated that the car turned over, having collided with a trailer going in the same direction.

Te Whaiti stated in evidence that he had four teeth out at Featherston and had two drinks. Just as he intended to pass the car with the trailer it appeared to swerve in front of him. The Magistrate fined him £7 and costs, and his driving licence was cancelled for 12 months. Personal. Miss L. Higginson, matron of the Greytown Hospital, has returned from a holiday spent in the Auckland Province. TOWN HALL TWO BIG FEATURES. Joan Davis will be seen at her best in “Sweetheart of the Fleet,” a brilliant comedy, which will be shown tonight. The associate feature, “Down •Rio Grande Way,” is an exciting drama featuring Chares Starrett and Russell Hayden.
