SOME SUCCESSES
GAINED BY BRITISH FORCES IN BURMA LAND & AIR OPERATIONS. TWO JAPANESE RAIDING PLANES PROBABLY DESTROYED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) RUGBY, April 21. An India communique says: “The situation on the Arakan front is unchanged. Our patrols in the Upper Chindwin country inflicted considerable casualties on the enemy, with negligible Tosses to themselves. R.A.F. Blenheims yesterday bombed about 500 Japanese troops in the Mayu hills, causing, it is believed, many casualties. Other Blenheims bombed Japanese troops in the Upper Chindwin area. High-flying Japanese bombers, with a strong fighter escort, attacked the Imphal area. Many bombs fell among village huts and some people were killed or injured. R.A.F. fighters probably destroyed two of the raiders and damaged others. From all operations, including an offensive sweep over the Akyab district and a raid on an enemy airfield near Meiktila, two of our planes are missing.”
