ENFIDAVILLE OCCUPIED ALL INITIAL OBJECTIVES TAKEN. F ENEMY COUNTER-ATTACKS REPULSED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) RUGBY, April 21. A North Africa Communique states: “The Eighth Army attacked the Enfidaville positions on Monday night. Enfidaville has been occupied, and all initial objectives captured, after fierce fighting. Four enemy counter-attacks were repulsed and fighting continues. From the First Army there is nothing to report, except small local advances in the Medjez el Bab sector. On Monday night medium and light bombers of the tactical air force made attacks on enemy airfields in Tunisia. Attacks on enemy airfields were continued throughout yesterday, on a heavy scale, by strong forces of bombers of the strategic and tactical air forces’ fighters. The tactical air force was also active throughout the day, maintaining sweeps and patrols over forward areas. Twenty-seven enemy aircraft were destroyed during the day. From all these operations eight of our aircraft are missing. Further reports received show that on Sunday an additional ten enemy aircraft were destroyed, and on Monday fighters of the Coastal Air Force shot down two enemy aircraft.”
