KUBAN CONFLICT

ANOTHER VAIN GERMAN EFFORT POWERFUL COUNTER-ATTACK THROWN BACK. AFTER TEMPORARILY GAINING GROUND. LONDON, April 20. In Russia the Germans have massed half their forces in the Kuban opposite the Crimea. This appears, to be an attempt to forestall a Russian offensive aimed at getting across the Kerch Straits. The enemy made another assault on the Russian positions in the past 24 hours. At first the Red Army gave ground under pressure of superior tank and infantry forces, but a counter-attack threw the enemy back.

No large-scale operations are reported from, other parts of the Russian front.
