“STAGGERED” IN SYDNEY

SHOP AND OTHER HOURS.

EASING TRANSPORT PROBLEMS.

(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) ' SYDNEY, April 20.

The hours of shops, picture theatres, business offices and public departments are to be “staggered” in order to overcome transport difficulties at peak traffic hours. The scheme, which will operate in all Australian cities, provides for altered starting and finishing hours, so that the inflow and outflow of people to and from the cities may be spread over a period of about three hours, instead of being crammed into a single hour. This will enable reasonable traffic facilities to be preserved for essential workers compelled to travel during the present peak hours, and will ease the strain on overtaxed transport vehicles and depleted transport staffs.
