DAY & NIGHT RAIDS
ON WESTERN EUROPE MADE BY LIGHT BOMBERS & FIGHTERS. “TRAIN-BUSTING” OVER WIDE AREA. LONDON, April 20. Strong forces of light Ventura bombers were out over Europe again this afternoon. Some were detailed to bomb the docks at Cherbourg and others attacked railway yards at Boulogne. Another force attacked an industrial plant in the Zeebrugge area, in Belgium.
Escorting fighters did not meet a single enemy fighter and all the planes got back safely. Other fighters on patrol shot down two enemy planes without loss to themselves.
Fighter Command aircraft were out during the night, “train-busting” from Brittany to north-western Germany. Whirlwinds attacked shipping in the English Channel. Two planes did not get back from the night’s operations.
