Y.M.C.A. ACTIVITIES

BUSY CENTRE IN MASTERTON. BASKETBALL CONTESTS arranged. With the approach of the winter season, activities at the Masterton Y.M.C.A. are increasing, with additional service to members of the forces, such as catering for their keep fit requirements. The gymnasium and other facilities at the rooms are found to be in greater demand. The Ladies Auxiliary is also a live factor and is sponsoring a social gathering for Mothers and Sons on April 29, instead of the customary banquet. Arrangements are in hand to commence the association’s sessions for girls’ and boys’ physical classes on May 1 Provision also has been made and times allotted for approximately 20 teams of interhouse ladies to practice as well as hold their weekly Monday night contests in basketball, while on Saturday evenings two-hour men’s basketball contests, which will include expert teams of visiting American players, will be run by the Y.M.C.A. for the Entertainment of the public. On account of the limited accommodation, and to assure patrons the pleasure of witnessing these games in comfort, the public must obtain admittance by ticket at a nominal charge The Board of Directors for 1943-44 has been appointed, the personnel being as follows:—President, Mr J. A. Kennedy; vice-president, Mr E. M. Hodder; treasurer, Mr C. Sutherland, auditor, Mr F. E. Wells; directors Messrs D Lyttle , A. Tatton, J. Y. Douglas, E. Esler, H. R. Keltie, W. L. Hunter L B. Maunsell, T. A. Russell, J. IW ’ T Jones, W. Flaws and the Rev. lH.’ Taepa. The standing committees are:—Executive 'and finance, Messrs Kennedy, Hodder, Maunsell and Sutherland; house committee, Messrs Esler, Russell, Keltie .Flaws and Hunter; physical committee, Messrs Tatton, Jones, and Lyttle; religious committee, the Rev. H. Taepa and W. L. Hunter, and general secretary (Mr Gaze). Sunday hours will be observed at the association’s rooms on Good Friday. ....„
