AXIS ATTACKS IN KUBAN ENEMY FAILS TO WIDEN BRIDGEHEAD. SIX THOUSAND GERMANS KILLED IN LATEST FIGHTING. LONDON, April 19. The news from Russia today is again of German attempts to widen their bridgehead in the Kuban. The Red Army is holding one enemy counter-attack alter another. In the latest fighting it is reported that the Russians have killed nearly 6,000 Germans. The enemy has also lost a score or more of aircraft in this area.

On the Middle Donetz front the Luftwaffe is making costly attacks on the Soviet positions. In the Leningrad area, Soviet aircraft destroyed 19 German planes in a swoop on an enemy airfield.
