FRENCH UNITY
PROPOSALS BY NATIONAL COMMITTEE. GENERAL CATROUX RETURNING TO ALGIERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 15. The French National Committee, after three meetings this week, made a statement that General Catroux will return to Algiers without delay with a note replying to the memorandum from General Giraud. The statement added: “The committee notes with satisfaction that agreement is now possible on certain basic principles, while several important points remain to be clarified. The unity of the French Empire in the war is an imperious and urgent national ■ necessity, and the Committee still considers it necessary that General de Gaulle should have the opportunity of going to Algiers accompanied by several national commissioners. “The Committee is more than ever convinced that the unity of the Empire must be brought about rapidly and is possible in conformity with the principles which guided Fighting France since June, 1940.’’
