A communique from Hitler’s headquarters states that Admiral Horthy (Regent of Hungary) arrived for a two days’ visit on April 16. The Fuehrer discussed with him “the general political situation and the fight against the common enemy.” Von Ribbentrop and the German and Hungarian Ambassadors participtaed. These political discussions and also military discussions between the Nazi Chief of Staff, General Keitel and the Hungarian Chief of Staff, Colonel-General Szombataely, the communique states, were characterised by the spirit of traditional German-Hungarian friendship and comradeship in arms. The Fuehrer and Admiral Horthy expressed a resolve to carry on the fight against Bolshevism and its Anglo-American allies until victory had been achieved. “The Hungarians, who have already experienced the terrors of Bolshevism will fight shoulder to shoulder with the Tripartite Powers until the,threat has been completely eliminated,” the communique adds. “They will mobilise all their forces to help in the liberation of Europe and to safeguard the life of the Hungarian nation.”
