Jacques Mornard, alias Frank Jackson, the assassin of Trotsky, was sentence to 20 years’ imprisonrhent. Mornard pleaded that he acted in selfdefence. He admitted striking Trotsky with an alpine axe in the course of a heated political quarrel on August 20, 1940. The verdict failed to establish that Mornard was an Ogpu agent.
