FIGHTER AIRCRAFT
ATTACKS ON WESTERN EUROPE PRESSED BY DAY & NIGHT.’ DAMAGE TO AXIS AIRFIELDS & COMMUNICATIONS. LONDON, April 16. Fighter Command aircraft early today contributed another instalment to the day . and night offensive against the Germans. Fighter-bomb-ers attacked an enemy airfield near Le Havre. Typhoons followed and struck at armed minesweepers in Le Havre Harbour, setting two on fire and damaging a third. They then went on to attack oil storage tanks alongside the docks. A Messerschmitt which attempted to interfere was shot down into the sea. Industrial targets at Ostend were attacked by other aircraft, which scored a four to one victory over enemy fighters. Today’s raids followed the Fighter Command’s biggest night offensive for many weeks. Intruders shot up enemy targets from North-West Germany to south of Paris, strik- ' ing at the enemy's vital communications and airfields. One Mosquito pilot caught two t German bombers over an airfield and shot i them down. The pilot completed his bag by destroying a locomotive and damaging three others. Another “train-busting” pilot blew up a train south of Paris and left another train blazing on a bridge.
