SOVIET ATTACK
GROUND GAINED IN KUBAN REGION ENEMY EFFORTS ON DONETZ REPELLED. GERMANS BOMB DUMMY AERODROME. LONDON, April 15. Ju the Kuban region Soviet troops forced a river crossing, stormed fortified positions and held the ground gained against enemy counter-at-tacks. Fighting has again broken out in the Donet zarea, where two German attacks on the bridgehead held by the Russians west of the river, at Isyam, were repelled. Reporting stubborn battles south of Balakleya, near the Donezt River, the Moscow “Pravda” says that the Russians are frustrating all German attempts to gain vantage points. The Germans spent a whole day bombing what they believed was a real aerodrome, near Balakleya, but the Russians have now revealed that the aerodrome was a dummy. HEAVILY DEFEATED ATTEMPTED GERMAN RAID ON KURSK. NINE ENEMY PLANES SHOT DOWN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) RUGBY, April 15. The Moscow radio states that yesterday German planes attempted to raid Kursk but they were dispersed by Soviet fighters and anti-aircraft fire and could not reach the city. Nine German planes were shot down. Another Moscow message says the Moscow garrison has been ordered to change to summer uniforms on April 20. All skis and sledges are being called in and Red Army units will follow suit on all fronts except the Finnish, where winter prevails through May. | i , .
