FEATHERSTON

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT KAHUTARA. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Kahutara Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday, Mrs Hood Senr., presiding over a good attendance. Mrs Hood was appointed as delegate to the conference at Gisborne. A letter was received from a local soldier overseas acknowledging a parcel received from the Institute. Seventeen parcels were packed ready to be forwarded to local soldiers overseas. It was decided to hold a dance next month to celebrate the eighth birthday of the Institute, the proceeds to go towards the wool and parcel fund. Mrs Hood Senr., with 371bs. from 4 potatoes, won the potato competition, the prize for which was donated by Mrs Hewison. Members of the St. John’s Guild and Women’s Division were also present to hear Mrs Higgs speak on her travels overseas, for which she was thanked. A bring and buy stall did good business. The competition winners were:— Best carrots: Mrs Pottinger 1, Mrs Elbe 2. Best worked handkerchief: Mrs Pottinger 1, Mrs Hewison 2. Best bloom: Mrs Hewison 1, Mrs T. Hood 2. The hostesses were Mesdames Pope and Elbe. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs Morgan are visiting friends at Kaituna. Mrs Parsons is visiting relatives in Wellington. Service Club Dance. < There was a good attendance at the Service Club dance on Tuesday night at which a competition was won by Mrs O’Neale. At cards Miss Ruane and Mr N. Burt tied for first prize. The aggregate resulted: Mrs McKenna 1, Mrs Habib 2, Mrs Cross 3. Mr Tait won the consolation. The aggregate prizes were donated by Mr Tait. COSY THEATRE TWO FEATURES. Tomorrow night there will be presented “Sweater Girl,” a murder mystery starring Jane Frazee and Eddie Bracken, and “Paris Calling,” a sensational drama featuring Elizabeth Bergner and Basil Rathbone.
