THE POPPY DAY APPEAL.
'J’IIROUGHOUT the Wairarapa tomorrow, citizens will be invited, as in past years, to buy poppies to be worn as tokens of remembrance on Anzac Day and in doing so to contribute to funds which will be put to good use in giving assistance that is needed by some of the men who fought for their country and the Empire a quarter of a century ago. It need not be doubted that there will be again, as there always has been, a ready and generous response. In the present time of emergency and stress there assuredly has been no weakening of the gratitude and respect felt for those who upheld the cause of freedom and justice in the last world war. The U.S.A. bears witness to the fact that full use will be found for all the money raised on Poppy Day. The whole amount raised is retained in the district to be paid out in grants to ex-service men who may be in need of assistance on account of sickness or other misfortune. Needs of this kind continue to arise, and on Poppy Day an opportunity is offered of extending a helping hand to those who have deserved well of their country.
