SPLENDID SCORE

MADE BY NEW ZEALAND AIRMAN - THREE AXIS AIRCRAFT DESTROY- | ED IN THREE DAYS. SQUADRON ACCOUNTS FOR TEN IN FOUR DAYS. (Official War Correspondent, N.Z.E.F.) ALGIERS, April 13. A former Waihi goldmine electrician, now Flying Officer E. A. Mackie, a member of an R.A.F. Spitfire squadron in Tunisia, has destroyed three enemy aircraft in three days. His latest success was over a Messerschmitt 109 which was about 30 feet from him when he fired, and he returned to his base with his windscreen smothered in oil from the Messerschmitt’s engine. With two Junkers 78s' shot down in the two previous days, he has made a handsome contribution to his squadron’s total of 10 aircraft destroyed in four days without loss to themselves.
