BOSTON FIRE TRAGEDY

Barnett Welansky, owner of the Coconui Grove Night Club, was convicted on 19 counts of manslaughter in connection with the fire, which cost 490 lives, on November 28. Welansky’s brother James, assistant manager of the club, and Jacob Goldfine, wine steward, were acquitted. The prosecution contended that defendants failed to provide adequate safety equipment. The defence asserted that panic and terror were largely responsible for the great loss of life.
