WRENS ON PARADE
SALUTE TAKEN BY QUEEN. DUCHESS OF KENT PRESENT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.0 a.m.) RUGBY, April 11. A big London crowd saw the Queen, who is Commandant-in-Chief of the Women’s Royal Naval Service, take the salute today at a march past of 1,000 officers and ratings at Buckingham Palace, in celebration of the fourth anniversary of the reinauguration of the service. With the Queen was the Duchess of Kent in her uniform of Commandant of the “Wrens.” The First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr A. V. Alexander) and Admiral Dudley Pound were with the Royal party. The Queen returned the salute of each detachment with a little bow. The young Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra of Kent were present. Afterwards the Queen drove to Westminster Abbey, where she attended a special service with the Duchess of Kent.
