AIR OFFENSIVE AGAINST GERMANY RUSSIANS START FIRES IN KONIGSBERG. POWERFUL BRITISH ATTACK STRONGLY OPPOSED. LONDON, April 11. While the R.A.F. attacked south-west Germany last night, Russian bombers (lew in from the east to raid Konigsberg. The R.A.F. bombers had to fly through thick clouds most of the way to reach their objectives. They found night fighters waiting for them and anti-aircraft batteries put up a concentrated barrage. The bombers sent down many 4,0001 b bombs and shot down at least two enemy fighters. One fell to a rear-gunner after the fighter had collided with his plane. Eighteen bombers are missing from the night's work, which included mine laying in enemy waters. Russian bombers, in their raid on Konigsberg, started large fires among industrial and military targets, states a Moscow announcement. All the Russian bombers returned. BAY OF BISCAY ACTION. Aircraft of Coastal Command hit an enemy supply ship in the Bay of Biscay as well as one of the escort ships. Two planes did not get back from this action.
