German attempts Io force a crossing of the Donetz have diminished to sporadic artillery fire. The enemy is at a standstill. Mr Paul Winterton, the London “News-Chronicle’s" Moscow representative, says the Germans have probably given up the idea of trying to force a break through and are now looking for a weak spot in the Russian defences. The Russians are taking advantage of the lull to make fresh * troop dispositions and to bring up supplies ready for violent fighting in the future. The Germans are making repeated air attacks on communications behind the Red Army’s lines. MINOR ACTIONS SOVIET SUCCESSES & GAINS. (British Official Wireless.)
