Youth Rally.

There was a good attendance at a rally of young people held in the Masterton Methodist Hall. Favourite hymns were sung, Mr Miller Hope being at the piano. Miss Elsie Andrews, M.8.E., delivered an interesting address on educational matters. On behalf of those present, Mr. F. H. Parker expressed appreciation to Miss Andrews for her address. National Savings Quotas. Outstanding success marked the national war savings quota operations for the first week of the new financial year, 143 places, including sixteen of the eighteen provincial centres having attained then? quotas. Although the number of successes is the highest recorded for several months this is not the only gratifying feature, for fifteen postal districts attained their full district quotas, sufficient surpluses having been recorded at some places to offset deficiencies at others. At Darfield (Canterbury), for example, where the weekly quota is £39, the sum raised last week was no less than £27,037, which is £9 in excess of its annual quota. Another notable feature of the week’s operations was the attainment of the weekly quotas in the Auckland and Christchurch metropolitan areas, where for some months the investments had fallen short of the prescribed amounts. At Christchurch, where the weekly quota is £7,450, the results were exceptional, investments for the week having exceeded £40,000.
