CURFEW FOR GIRLS
SUGGESTED BY ARCHBISHOP OF BRISBANE. GRAVE WAR PROBLEM. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.0 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. A curfew to prevent girls under 17 being out at night, unless accompanied by an older relative, was urged by the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane (Dr Duhig) in an address to the annual meeting of the Catholic Daughters of Australia. Other measures suggested by Archbishop Duhig to combat the growing immorality which is regarded as one of Australia’s gravest war problems, were the raising of the age of consent to eighteen years, strict supervision over apartment houses, the clearing out of undesirables from city parks and heavy penalties for offences against morality in public parks.
