LABOUR IN BRITAIN
TWO MOMENTOUS QUESTIONS FOR DECISION. AT WHITSUN CONFERENCE. : (Special P.A. Correspondent.) i LONDON, April 5. ; The Labour Party’s annual confer- ; ence at Whitsun is rousing more inter- ■ est —some say excitement than ever I before. There are two major decisions ' which it will have to make. First, it will have to determine whether the : electoral truce will be broken, second- > ly, whether the Communist Party’s request for admission to the Labour Party will be accepted. It is thought at present that the answer will be in ! the negative in both cases. 1 The Labour Party is passing through E a difficult phase. It has been observed • that while the middle-of-the-road Engl lish are moving to the left, the people ■ are not following the Labour Party, ’ and some are tending toward the Com- - munist Party and others to the Coml monwealth Party (a new party which 1 has been contesting by-elections). It is also observed that the most - common complaint against the Laboui r Party is that it is dominated by the ’ trade unions. It is expected to be a " lively conference, and most important for Labour’s future. I
