A transport employees’ strike virtually halted tram and bus transportation in Montreal city and suburbs, preventing many war workers reaching their benches. The Labour Minister, Mr Mitchell, told the Canadian House of Commons that the strike was a jurisdictional inter-union fight. He added that there was less justification for it than for any strike since the outbreak of the war. The Government had appointed a commissioner to mediate in the dispute. A later message reports the settlement of the strike on the basis of the company recogniisng the Brotherhood of Railway Employees as the sole bargaining agency.
