STATE THEATRE
“KIPPS.” All of the leading novelists seem to invent for their own immortality a certain character, and in giving the world “Kipps,” H. G. Wells performed a lasting service, apart from demonstrating his versatility as a writer. The film version of this famous, stoiy, which will be shown tonight .at the State Theatre, is, if anything more satisfying than the book, so wel do the players present the personalities conceived by Welle. Michael Redgiave acts excellently as Kipps (in the adu stage), and equally impressive is Diana Wynyard, the woman with whom Kipps falls in love but who does not return his love. In brief, it is the tale of a young man who, after unexpected wealth is bestowed upon him, returns to his boyhood sweetheart. It is a human story,’ brilliantly achieved in screen form, and will undoubtably attract large audiences. There are many excellent items in the supporting programme.
