UPPER PLAIN

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute was held at the residence of Mrs J. Gillespie, Kibblewhite Road. In the absence of, the' president (Mrs C. H. Skeet), the chair was taken by Mrs Tankersley (vicepresident). It was decided to support the proposal to hold a Dominion Conference in two sections. A delegate will be sent to the section holding its meeting in the North Island. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mrs W. Gordon Laing; vice-presidents, Mesdames E. Taplin and Tankersley; secretary, Mrs Mannell; treasurer, Mrs Clark; committee, Mesdames Clement, W. Taplin, Skeet and Miss McKenzie. A parcel of wool and cut-out garments from the Country Women’s branch of the Red Cross Society were distributed among’members. The secretary presented the annual report which was adopted. The financial statement showed a satisfactory credit balance. Points prizes for the year were won as follows:—Best bloom, Mrs W. Taplin; cooking, Mrs Tankersley. Mr H. J. Fairchild was thanked for his services as auditor. At the meeting in April, Mrs P. R. Welch will give a practical demonstration and the competitions will be the

best bloom and wholemeal sponge.
