DEFENCE ORDER
CONTROL OF BRITISH COASTAL AREAS MR. MORRISON’S INTIMATION. TOO MANY QUESTIONS NOT DESIRED. LONDON, March 30. The whole of Britain’s south and east coasts are included in a new defence order, which gives power to turn back visitors, without warning, within ten miles of the coastline. Mr. H. Morrison (Home Secretary) said he hoped local bodies would not ask too many questions, as the answers might give information to the enemy. Mr. Morrison said the measure could be considered not only as a precaution against invasion but with a view to the possible use of the areas concerned as a base for offensive operations.
