SUGAR RATION

EXTRA ALLOWANCE FOR JAM MAKING. ANNOUNCEMENT BY CONTROLLER (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. An allowance against each ration book of an extra three pounds of sugar for use during the next four months was announced last night by the Food and Rationing Controller, Mr. J. E. Thomas. He said that as previously advised the April sugar ration would be three pounds, coupons numbers 21 to 24 inclusive being available for this purpose. In addition, the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr. Sullivan, with the approval of War Cabinet, had authorised him to make a further release of three pounds of sugar to each ration book-holder during the period April 1 to June 31 next, such issue to be obtained on the surrender of coupon No. 49. This further issue had been made with a view to assisting those people who desired to make marmalade or jam during the next four months. Mr Thomas confirmed the statement made on March 1 that the tea . ration for April would be eight ounces ,and that coupons numbers 21 to 24 inclusive would be used for that month, with a value of two ounces each. In addition, as announced previously, the extra issue of eight ounces was still available to those who had not already drawn it, on the surrender of tea coupon No. 49, the currency of which expired on April 30.
