OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
COLLEGE ASSEMBLY HALL (To the Editor) Sir,—On behalf of my association, I should be pleased if you would kindly publish the enclosed correspondence between my association and the Wairarapa College Board of Governors with reference to use of the College Assembly Hall. As no reference to this matter has been published by the Board of Governors we feel, in fairness to the parents of the pupils of the West School, that we should take this step. Bearing in mind the fact that the primary school children of - today become the secondary pupils of tomorrow, my committee is rather surprised to be informed that this association is considered an “outside” organisation. Yours, etc., F. G. JESTIN, President, Masterton West Home & School Association. In a letter to the Wairarapa College Board of Governors dated March 4, the secretary of the Masterton West *• Home and School Association wrote:— “I am directed by my committee to write and apply for the use of the College Assembly Hall for the purpose of holding a children’s fancy dress ball for the pupils of the West School,, at a date to be arranged. In view of the fact that no other suitable hall is available at the present time and that this function is intended solely for the children of the West School, my committee hopes that your members will favourably consider this request. If permission is granted, strict supervision will be exercised by. my committee to ensure that there will not be any cause for complaint. Trusting we may receive your favourable reply.—Yours, etc., J. Haywood, secretary.” To this the secretary of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors replied: “With apologies for the delay in replying to your letter of 4th applying for the use of the College* Assembly Hall, which was submitted to the board at its monthly meeting held on the 15th inst. In reply I was directed to inform you that there was a resolution of the board prohibiting the use of the hall by any outside organisation, consequently your request cannot be acceded to. —Yours, etc., H. M. Boddington, secretary.”
