ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) P.G. Bro. J. A. Stevens presided over the ordinary meeting of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., last evening. One member declared off the sick funds of the lodge. Sick pay totalling £9 16s 8d was ordered to be paid. The secretary reported that word had been received from P.G. Bro. A. R. Steffert, a prisoner of war in Germany, stating that he was fit and well and being well cared for. The secretary was granted leave of absence from the next lodge meeting. - It was decided that the meeting which was to have been held on Easter Monday, take place on Tuesday, April 27. SCHOOL COMMITTEE »lll—— MEETING HELD LAST NIGHT. The monthly meeting of the Carterton District High School Committee w r as held last evening and was presided over- by Mr H.’J. McKenzie, there being also present, Messrs W. E. Knowles, G. L. Chatwin, F. Denbee, C. K. Goodin and G. Stark. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs PL. Beere and R. Williams. The chairman reported in connection with the basketball area, and it was resolved that the secretary write to the Education Board making application for the work to be proceeded with. It was resolved that the Borough Council be written to asking that the roadway near the school gates be put in order and tar-sealed. It was decided to request the Educa- ■ tion Board to repair the fence on the north-eastern side of the school I grounds in Holloway Street. The headmaster reported that the number of pupils on the primary school roll was 387, and in the secondary department 44. A dance held at Farkvale in aid of the school recreation fund had realised £l3. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs A. Tinsley left -this morning to spend a holiday in Napier. Mr and Mrs J. Hooper are visiting Auckland.
Mr and Mrs T. T. Hughes, have left tc take up their residence at Parapai;aumu, where Mr Hughes has purchased a business. Mrs A. Ingley and Miss K. Mitchell, who spent a holiday in the Marlborough Sounds, have returned home. Mr A. Ingley, manager of the Carterton gasworks, has returned from holidays spent in New Plymouth. Patriotic Dance. A dance will be held in the Belvedere Schoolroom on Friday next. The proceeds will be donated to the Patriotic Fund, j REGENT THEATRE “TO BE OR NOT TO BE.” Tonight there will be presented' the romantic comedy, “To Be or Not to Be,” in which Carole Lombard and Jack Benny portray the chief characters.
