REPORTED MISSING

SQUADRON LEADER CRICHTON COMMANDER OF NEW ZEALAND FORMATION. OPERATING IN PACIFIC. • (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Thsi Day. Squadron-Leader Allan Crighton, R.N.Z.A.F., commanding officer of the first New Zealand fighter squadron to be despatched to the Pacific from New Zealand, has been officially reported missing, believed killed on active service. Born in Dunedin in 1910, he gained his pilot’s license in 1934, as a member of the Otago Aero Club. He was subsequently instructor to the Marlborough Aero Club. On the outbreak of war he was posted to a South Island station as Flight-Commander and Flying instructor. He was appointed flying instructor to a North Island station in 1940. Towards the end of last year Squadron-Leader Crighton was appointed to command the first New Zealand fighter squadron to be despatched to a Pacific base.
