FEATHERSTON

EUCHRE PARTY & DANCE GATHERING AT KAHUTARA. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Kahutara-Pahautea-Pukio Farewell Committee and the Home Guard held a most successful euchre party and dance in the Kahutara Hall on Saturday in aid of the funds to provide parcels for local servicemen overseas. The hall was packed. The euchre results were as follows: Ladies, Mrs Himona 1, Mrs Jaquery 2; men, Mr Cade 1, Mr Ruka 2. The 'lamb prizes were donated by Messrs McKay and Playle and ducks by Mr Scadden. The competitions were won as follow:—Hamper. Mr Feast; ham, Mrs V. Woods; cake, Mr McKay. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr Udy’s Orchestra. Mr Rundle was M.C. Songs were rendered by Misses Hewison and Himona. The Monte Carlo dance was won by Mr Wetherston and Miss Cade. The ladies’ committee provided the supper. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs G. Jaquery, Hanmer Springs, are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. C. Playle, Kahutara. Miss Ngairc Tocker has returned from a holiday spent in Auckland.. Miss V. Twentymen, Lower Hutt, was the weekend guest of Mrs J. R. Higgs. The parishioners of St Teresa’s Church met after Mass last night to bid farewell to the Rev Father Connor who has been transferred to Kilbirnie. Mr J. W. Card, on behalf of parishioners, presented Father Connor with a cheque. Father Connor suitably replied. Patriotic Dance. A dance was held on Saturday night in the Town Hall in aid of patriotic funds. An orchestra supplied the music and extras were played by Misses G. Fraser, C. Saba, N. Tocker and M. Tocker. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Cole and partner and a competition by Pte. Farrell. Grapes donated by Mrs D. H. S. Riddiford found a ready sale. The tables and stage ■ were decorated by Mrs Alexander. COSY THEATRE “UNDERGROUND.” A thrilling drama, “Underground,” will be shown tonight. Part of the proceeds will be given to the patriotic fund. The leading roles are taken by Jeffrey Lynn, Phillip Dorn and Kaaren Verne.
