POLITICAL PLANS
DEMOCRATIC LABOUR PARTY.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 27. i In a statement on behalf of the New Zealand Democratic Labour Party, the secretary (Mr F. M. Earle) says preparations are well under way in a majority of electorates throughout the Dominion for the selection of candidates and that it is probable that the party’s first group will be announced in less 'than six weeks’ time. In choosing candidates, preference will be given to returned Service men, especially, to contest certain seats held by Ministers of the Crown. This applied particularly to Auckland and Wellington. “Political party organisation is simply a means to achieve an end —we do not worship a political machine, trade union bureaucracy or vested interests,” said Mr Earle, “but membership is open to all men and women of goodwill who subscribe to our principles. The emergence of Democratic Labour is of historical significance and is symbolic of New Zealand’s radical democratic tradition. The recent Christchurch East by-election was significant of our increasing strength and Democratic Labour candidates will look forward towards the coming election with a healthy confidence not shared by their opponents.”
