» 95TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED BY MRS M. A. TEAL. (“Times-Age” Special.) Many relatives and friends of Mrs M. A. Teal, of No. 6 Garrison Street, Carterton, gathered at her residence this week to congratulate her on reaching her 95th birthday. At the head of the tea table was a beautiful birthday cake bearing. 95 miniature candles, which were lit during the tea and were extinguished by Mrs Teal. The cake was cut and Mrs Teal’s health toasted. Mrs Teal is hale and hearty and still does most of her housework, weeds her garden and cooks meals. Mrs Teal has been a resident of the Wairarapa for the past 65 years. She was the recipient of telegrams and letters and presents from Auckland to Wellington. Mrs Teal has 4 sons and two daughters still living. They are Messrs John Teal (Petone), Thomas (Carterton), Charles (Carterton), Arthur (Ahiaruhe), and Mesdames C. Holland (Carterton) and Giles (Hastings). ’ Personal Items. Mrs Wilson, of Dannevirke, whose son, Flight Lieutenant P. J. Wilson, recently lost his life, is .a visitor to Carterton, and is the guest of Mrs W. Hayden, Holloway Street Mr and Mrs W. A. Hart have received word that their son, Wally, who is serving in the Middle East, has been granted a commission. Building Society Ballot. Mr L. H. Smart, chairman of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society, presided over a meeting of directors when a ballot for an appropriation of £6OO resulted, in Mr R. Leith (Carterton) being successful. Members of the Roman Catholic .Church after the Sunday evening’s service will farewell Father Connor, who is to leave Carterton to take up duties in the Kilbirnie parish, Wellington. . There was a representative gathering ox residents at the Carterton Borough Council Chambers last evening when Mr E. McKenzie (deputy mayor) presented A.C.2 J. u. Billington with a gift from the citizens of the town. On behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, the deputy mayor handed him a parcel of woollen garments. Mr F. L. Barr spoke on behalf of the Carterton branch of the R.S.A. Mr Billington suitably replied. Evangelistic Mission. Messrs E. Manning and P. Griffin will continue their Evangelistic Mission services at the Masonic Hall, Carterton, on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. Valuation Roll. The revision of the district valuation roll for the borough of Carterton, is directed by a notice published in this week’s "Gazette.” REGENT THEATRE “TURNED OUT NICE AGAIN.” George Formby will be seen at his best in “Turned Out Nice Again,” an. excellent comedy which will be shown tonight.
