RAID ON SCOTLAND
4 AND NORTH OF ENGLAND SIX AIRCRAFT SHOT DOWN. OUT OF ATTACKING FORCE OF 25. LONDON, March 25. Last night a force of 25 enemy planes attacked the lowlands of Scotland, and the north of England. They ran into a terrific barrage,, part of it put up by a Home Guard bdttery. The buildings hit included a church, which was burnt out and a school. The defences rose to the occasion and six of the 25 raiders were destroyed. No enemy raiders were reported over Britain today. BRITISH WHIRLWINDS DAMAGING ATTACK MADE ON ABBEVILLE. LONDON, March 25. British Whirlwind bombers kept up the air offensive against the enemy today by attacking the marshalling yards at Abbeville. The first two bombs exploded on a line of trucks, All the aircraft returned, almost without a scratch. NAZI FIGHTERS AT LEAST 80 DESTROYED BY AMERICANS. IN COURSE OF TWO RAIDS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, March 24. • Eighty German aircraft were destroyed in the.last two raids by American bombers on Germany. The figures for the respective raids were: —Vegesack (last Thursday): 52 destroyed, 20 probables, 23 damaged. Wilhelmshaven (last Monday): 28 destroyed, nine possibles, nine damaged. Late this afternoon another enemy aircraft was destroyed by our fighters off the north-east coast of Scotland. The Algiers radio says that the R.A.F. bombed Prague, capital of Czechoslovakia, on Monday night.
