WEDDING
HEGER—WILLIAMS. St. Patrick’s Church, Masterton, was the scene of a pretty wedding this morning when Doris Mary, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. A. Williams, Chapel Street, Masterton, was married to Lieutenant Elmer J. Heger, United States Marine Corps, only son of Mrs Doris Martinson, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota and the late Mr Heger, Nuptial Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father N. Moore and Miss Molly Nee presided at the organ. At the church a guard-of-honour was provided by the Marine Corps. The wedding was unique in that it was the first Marine wedding in Master ton. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a charming gown of cream embroidered satin, cut on sweeping classical lines, with a train and long sleeves which came to a point over the wrists. Her lovely white tulle veil (kindly lent by a friend) was caught to the head with white flowers and a halo. The bride also wore an old Venetian silver locket. A sheaf of white lilies, begonias, and maidenhair fern completed the picturesque effect. Pretty frocks of Chaparelli pink net over taffeta, cut on Princess lines were worn by the two bridesmaids, Misses Peggy Jameson (chief) and Noreen Page, both of Masterton. For headdresses they wore short veils over a spray of flowers, the veils matching their dresses. They each wore diamante pennants, the gift of the bridegroom and carried sheafs of lilies and begonias to match their frocks. The duties of best man were carried out by Marine Gunner C. O. Fletcher and Q.M. Clerk Paul Cowles was groomsman. Six Warrant Officers were ushers at the church. They were Marine Gunners Jesse L. Griffin, Steve Discoe, Robert Wilson, George L. Fearnough, Duane F. Shuffler and Maxie Moore. The reception was held at the American Red Cross Service club rooms where a number of guests were entertained at a buffet wedding breakfast. The rooms were beautifully decorated. Mesdames Williams and Betty Learmont (club director) received the guests. Mrs Williams wore a navy dress and coat with accessories and a matching shoulder spray and Mrs Learmont wore the uniform of the American Red Cross organisation. The usual toasts were honoured. When Lieutenant and Mrs Heger left by car for the North the bride travelled in a dark red check costume with black accessories.
