ALFREDTON

BIRTHDAY PARTY AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) An enjoyable time was spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Hartley, the occasion being the celebration of the twenty-first birthday of Driver T. Rolls, son of Mr H. Rolls. Mr J. Hartley proposed the health of the guest of honour and handed him a key. The birthday cake with its 21 candles was cut by Driver Rolls and handed round. The time was spent in games and cards. A savoury supper was served by Mrs J. Hartley. PATRIOTIC SOCIETY GAMES NIGHT. At the games night held by the local Patriotic Society the winners in the euchre tournament were: Ladies, Mrs T. Smith; men, Mr R. Low. A competition for a box of chocolates was won by Mr B. Rolls. A 10s grocery order was won by Mrs J. Williams. The following goods were donated and auctioned by Mr Avery Weston: Marrows donated by Mrs G. Napier realised 5/6, vegetables from Mr Chas Leach 21s, fruit from Mrs Weston 6s 6d, red beet and carrots from Mrs Clee 3s 3d, honey donated by Mrs H. Percy 4s lOd. The hostesses were Mesdames Williams, Parsonson and Miss B. Edmonds. Personal Items. Driver Trevis Rolls has returned to camp. Mrs Algie and Mrs Low have returned home from Napier. Mr Lionel Wallis is visiting Masterton. Misses K. Smith and M. Smith have returned from a visit to Pongaroa. Mr Vic Payne is visiting Dannevirke.
