SERVICES TO CHURCH
SUITABLY ACKNOWLEDGED. SOLDIER ENTERTAINED AT ' • KURIPUNI. A very enjoyable gathering was held in the Kuripuni Methodist Church last night when one of the active members of the church, Private Noel Newman, was the guest of honour. The arrangements in connection with the gathering were in the hands of Mr J. D. Blundell, and Mr D. Alan Barnes opened the proceedings by leading in a community sing. Competitions were held and games played. Mr D. A. Barnes and Miss D. Jameson contributed much appreciated solos, and Miss Joan O’Hara was warmly applauded for an excellent musical monologue and a recitation. A presentation was made to Pte. Newman, Messrs Blundell , C. R■Goudge and F. H. Parker referring in eulogistic terms to the service rendered by the guest of honour in connection with the Sunday School and the church generally. Pte. Newman suitably acknowledged the gift and the accompanying good wishes. Opportunity was also taken to make a presentation to Mrs W. J. C. Miller, who had given up teaching in the Sunday School at the end of last year owing to ill-health, it being stated that her loss was a severe one, and that het services had been of a very valuable nature. The presentation was suitably acknowledged by the recipient. Supper was provided and greatly enjoyed. The gathering was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem and the pronouncing of the benediction by Mr Parker.
