WASTE PAPER

INCREASED COLLECTION DESIRED. DELIVERIES TO WHAKATANE. An endeavour is being made to increase the collection of waste paper to maintain a minimum delivery of 100 to J2O tons per week to the Whakatane Paper Mill, which is specially desirous of securing as high a percentage as possible of office waste paper. It is hoped that shops and offices will respond to their fullest extent to meet this increased delivery rate. The Masterton Waste Paper Depot in Church Street is open to receive waste paper from 1 to 3 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Paper dumped outside the depot at times when it is not open only creates a nuisance, being blown about and subject to rain. In the latter case, if it becomes wet, it is 'of no value to gather up and dry out. Suppliers would assist in the campaign by taking the paper only on the days and within the times stated above. The following papers are definitely not wanted, and should be excluded from collections: Waxed and greaseproof paper, tarred paper, cellophane, carbon and silver paper. While the depot is doing good service, a great deal more can be done in this phase of national conservation of waste, if every business man ‘and householder takes a personal responsibility in seeing that paper is not wastefully disposed of, but conserved for profitable usefulness.
