MASTERTON ASSOCIATION. BUILDING SITE PURCHASED. A splendid year’s progress was reported at the annual meeting of the Masterton Free Kindergarten Association held in Masterton last night. It was announced by the president, Mrs C. J. Williams, that a property in College Street had been bought for a building site and that the Housing Department, through the representations of Mr J. Robertson, M.P., had donated a strip of land which gave access to the site. In presenting the annual report Mrs Williams said that it was unfortunate that under today’s circumstances the work of the Free Kindergarten was impeded. Having no building was a handicap to public interest but it was hoped to build in the future. Mrs Williams said that two major steps had been taken by the committee during the year. One was to become an incorporated society and the other was to negotiate for a site. She paid a tribute to the keen personal interest taken in the affairs of the association by Mr Robertson and to the legal work freely given by Mr T. Jordan. The association had assets worth £356, including a grant of £5O held in trust by the Masterton Trust Lands Trust. The membership of the association stood at 80'. Mrs Williams urged members to continue their interest and thanked all who had helped the association in any way, particularly Mesdames J. L. Hair secretary) and Maclennan (treasurer) for their sterling work. Mr Robertson congratulated the association on its sound position. He said it had done wonderfully well and had made splendid progress under the present difficulties. Mr M. G. Mac Kay endorsed Mr Robertson’s remarks. A vote of thanks was passed to the hon auditor, Mi’ T. A. Cunningham. An address was given by Mrs Beeby, M.A., a report of which appears in another column. Mrs Beeby, who congratulated the association on its work, was presented with a bouquet by Mrs Hair. Supper 'was served at the conclusion of the meeting. The committee for the ensuing year was appointed as follow: Mesdames C. J. Williams, C. Anderson, Davies, S. Taylor, Read, Bunny, Jacobsen, Ford, E. Wilson, Johnson, M. G. McKay and J. L. Hair.
