MASTERTON CLUB CHAMPION FOURS FINAL. NOTES BY “THE BOWLER.” The final of the club's champion fours was played on Saturday afternoon last between W. Davies, D. Thomson, Stewart and Freeman (s) and J. Russell, Kennedy, F. Mills and W. Reid (s). The weather was perfect, and the green ip excellent order. After a most interesting game, Freeman’s team won by a margin of 2 points. There was an attendance of over 50 bowlers who watched the game with the keenest of interest. At the conclusion of the match, Mr H. Thomas, the club’s president, congratulated both the winners and runners-up on their fine display of bowling. The details of the game are as follow:— On the 6th head the scores were even, 7 all. Freeman had a lead of 4 points on the 10th head, and still retained a lead of 3 points on the 17th head, the scores being Freeman 20, Reid 17. On the 20th head, Freeman’s team was leading by 3 points, the scores being Freeman 23, Reid 20. On the last head, Reid scored a single, making the final scores Freeman 23, Reid 21. Wall Cup. ' The Wall Cup is for competition among colts of the Masterton and Park clubs. On Saturday last a challenge match was played, on the Masterton Club’s green between thg, i- holders, Vennell, Clayson, Beattie and Price (s), of the Masterton Club, and the challengers, Garard, McLerick, Edwards and Griffiths (s), of the Park Club. Aftei’ an enjoyable game, the Park team won by a margin of 7 points. The Park were leading by 5 points on the 9th head and by 17 points on the 15th 3 head, the scores being Park .24. Masterton 7. Masterton reduced this lead to 14 points on the 19th head, and in the next 2 heads put on 7 points, making the final score Park 26, Masterton 19. I, Mutrie Cup. A challenge match was played yesterday afternoon on the Masterton Club's green be--7 tween the holders, W. . Palamontain and p Freeman (s), of the Masterton Club, and the challengers, G. Brown and H. Smith (s), of the Park Club. After a most interesting ” game and an exciting finish, the Park pair won by a margin of 3 points. The details of the match are as follow:— On the Bth head Park were leading by 2 ’ points, and on the 12th head still retained the same lead, the scores being Park 12, Masterton 10. Masterton had reduced this lead to 1 point on the 16th head, but on the 20th head Masterton were in the lead by 2 points, the score board showing Masterton 19, Park 1 17. Park had to score 3 points on the last head to secure a win, and all the bowls played were watched with interest. Park put on s’points and thus won by 3 points, the final score being Park 22, Masterton 19. ; McCullough Trophy. ' Three years ago the widow and family of I the late Mr Wm. McCullough, an old and respected member of the Masterton Club, 1 gave a trophy each year for a period of 5 years in memory of the deceased, to be * competed for among the mid-week bowl- - 1 ers. In the first year, A. Hendry won the trophy, and in the second year George ‘ Elane was the winner. This season, 24 games have been played for the trophy, and W. Christian is the winner with 15 wins, then follow Blane 13, Doughty and Vennell 12 each, and Perry, Denbee, Hughes, and E. Reid 11 each. PARK CLUB. TROPHY CONTESTS. On Saturday next the following team will play at the Masterton Club’s green for the Centre Fours trophy:—R. Simpson, G. Brown, A. Osborne, H. Smith (s). The following veterans have been chosen to challenge the Masterton holders for the veteran trophies: H. Carr, C. Moor, J. Shearer, A. Kilgour.
